PurpleTools Clicks Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 23, 2026

PurpleTools Clicks is a Chrome extension designed to provide workflow assistance, navigation shortcuts, and click-reduction tools for authorized users of eClinicalWorks.

This Privacy Policy explains what information PurpleTools Clicks accesses, how that information is used, where it is stored, and when limited information may be shared with service providers.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to the PurpleTools Clicks Chrome extension and to information provided directly to PurpleTools Medical in connection with the extension.

In this policy, “PurpleTools Clicks,” “PurpleTools,” “we,” “our,” and “us” refer to the developer and operator of the PurpleTools Clicks extension.

PurpleTools Clicks is intended for professional use by authorized eClinicalWorks users. It is not intended for use by patients or children.

2. Purpose of PurpleTools Clicks

PurpleTools Clicks provides configurable workflow and click-reduction features within supported eClinicalWorks webpages.

The extension may add navigation buttons, workflow overlays, document controls, note controls, laboratory workflow tools, user-configured personnel shortcuts, alerts, and other interface enhancements.

PurpleTools Clicks operates only on supported eClinicalWorks domains, including:

  • Pages on the ecwcloud.com domain
  • Pages on the eclinicalweb.com domain

The extension does not monitor browsing activity on unrelated websites.

3. Information accessed or processed

A. eClinicalWorks webpage content

To provide its user-facing features, PurpleTools Clicks may access and process information displayed on supported eClinicalWorks webpages. This may include:

  • Page labels and headings
  • Buttons, menus, links, and other controls
  • Workflow status information
  • Document and note status
  • Laboratory-result controls
  • Telephone-message controls
  • Patient-chart information displayed on the current page
  • User-selected text or page elements needed to perform a requested action

This information may include health information or other sensitive information displayed within eClinicalWorks.

PurpleTools Clicks processes this information locally within the user’s browser for the purpose of providing the extension’s features.

PurpleTools Clicks does not transmit patient-chart content to PurpleTools Medical, ExtensionPay, Stripe, advertisers, or data brokers. PurpleTools Medical does not maintain a server-based copy of patient-chart content processed by the extension.

Some information may remain temporarily in browser memory, the webpage, or the device clipboard when the user deliberately uses a feature that copies information.

B. Extension preferences

PurpleTools Clicks stores configuration information selected by the user, including:

  • Enabled or disabled modules
  • Selected banner buttons
  • Interface preferences
  • User-entered personnel shortcut names
  • Alert-volume settings
  • Module timing or behavior settings
  • Whether certain extension elements are visible
  • Other user-selected configuration settings

These settings are stored using Chrome extension storage.

Some settings use Chrome’s synchronized storage. When Chrome synchronization is enabled, Google Chrome may synchronize those settings across browsers signed into the same Google account. Google’s privacy practices apply to information processed through Chrome synchronization.

PurpleTools does not use these settings for advertising, marketing profiles, or unrelated purposes.

C. Consent information

PurpleTools Clicks stores a record showing whether the user accepted the extension’s Data-Use Disclosure and Consent.

This record may include:

  • Whether consent was accepted
  • The version of the disclosure accepted
  • The date and time of acceptance

The extension remains disabled until the required disclosure is accepted.

D. Trial, account, and subscription information

PurpleTools Clicks uses ExtensionPay to provide:

  • Trial activation
  • Subscriber login
  • Subscription verification
  • Paid-access verification
  • Authorized free-user verification
  • License administration

ExtensionPay may process information such as:

  • An extension-specific identifier or access credential
  • Extension installation information
  • Email address provided during account registration or login
  • Trial start date
  • Paid or unpaid status
  • Subscription status
  • Subscription plan
  • Payment and cancellation dates
  • Other information necessary to administer extension access

PurpleTools may have access to limited customer, subscription, and transaction records through ExtensionPay or Stripe for subscription administration, customer support, fraud prevention, and troubleshooting.

PurpleTools Clicks may temporarily cache trial or subscription status in Chrome extension storage so that the extension does not need to contact ExtensionPay every time an eClinicalWorks page opens.

E. Payment information

Payments are processed through ExtensionPay and Stripe.

Payment-card information is entered on payment pages operated by ExtensionPay, Stripe, or their payment-service providers.

PurpleTools Clicks does not receive or store complete payment-card numbers, card security codes, or online-banking credentials.

Stripe and ExtensionPay may collect and process payment, billing, account, and transaction information under their respective privacy policies and terms.

F. Support communications

When a user contacts PurpleTools Medical for support, we may receive information the user voluntarily provides, such as:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Description of the problem
  • Extension version
  • Browser information
  • Screenshots
  • Diagnostic information

Users should not send patient names, medical-record numbers, dates of birth, screenshots containing identifiable patient information, or other protected health information when requesting support.

Information provided for support is used only to investigate the request, communicate with the user, maintain security, and improve the extension.

4. How information is used

PurpleTools uses information only as reasonably necessary to:

  • Provide the extension’s disclosed workflow features
  • Perform actions requested by the user
  • Save user preferences
  • Verify consent
  • Administer trials and subscriptions
  • Verify authorized access
  • Prevent unauthorized or fraudulent use
  • Diagnose technical problems
  • Respond to support requests
  • Maintain the security and reliability of the extension
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations

PurpleTools does not use patient-chart content or extension activity for advertising, marketing profiles, lending decisions, insurance decisions, employment decisions, or creditworthiness determinations.

5. Information sharing

PurpleTools does not sell, rent, or trade user data.

PurpleTools does not share patient-chart content with advertisers, advertising networks, data brokers, ExtensionPay, or Stripe.

Limited account, subscription, billing, and transaction information may be processed by ExtensionPay and Stripe as necessary to provide account, payment, trial, and license-verification services.

Information may also be disclosed when reasonably necessary to:

  • Comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or government request
  • Investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents
  • Protect the rights, safety, or property of users, PurpleTools, or the public
  • Enforce applicable terms or subscription requirements

PurpleTools does not permit its service providers to use extension information for personalized advertising.

6. Data retention

Patient-chart content is processed transiently in the browser and is not retained on PurpleTools servers.

Extension preferences, consent records, and cached license information may remain in Chrome extension storage until:

  • The user changes or clears the settings
  • The user revokes consent
  • The extension clears or replaces the information
  • The extension is uninstalled
  • The browser’s extension data is cleared

Support communications may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to resolve the support issue, maintain business records, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

ExtensionPay and Stripe retain information according to their own legal, operational, security, and payment-processing requirements.

7. Data deletion and user choices

Users may stop PurpleTools Clicks from processing eClinicalWorks webpage content by disabling or uninstalling the extension.

Users may also:

  • Disable individual PurpleTools Clicks modules
  • Revoke consent from the Options page
  • Clear extension data through Chrome
  • Uninstall the extension
  • Contact PurpleTools to request deletion of information provided directly for support
  • Manage or cancel their subscription through the applicable ExtensionPay or Stripe subscription portal

Uninstalling PurpleTools Clicks removes locally stored extension data from that Chrome installation. Information already processed by ExtensionPay, Stripe, Google Chrome synchronization, or another independent service is governed by that service’s retention and deletion practices.

8. Security

PurpleTools Clicks limits its requested Chrome permissions and restricts its content scripts to supported eClinicalWorks domains.

Communications with ExtensionPay use encrypted HTTPS connections.

PurpleTools takes reasonable steps to limit information access and protect information under its control. However, no browser extension, device, storage system, or internet transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Users are responsible for:

  • Protecting their devices and passwords
  • Preventing unauthorized browser access
  • Following their organization’s security policies
  • Using appropriate workstation locking and access controls
  • Confirming that installation of the extension is authorized by their organization

9. Healthcare privacy and organizational responsibilities

PurpleTools Clicks is a workflow-support tool. It does not replace clinical judgment, medical-record review, organizational policies, security procedures, or legal and regulatory compliance.

Healthcare organizations and individual users are responsible for determining whether use of PurpleTools Clicks is permitted within their environment and consistent with:

  • Their agreements with eClinicalWorks
  • Their organization’s privacy and security policies
  • Applicable healthcare privacy requirements
  • Applicable professional and regulatory requirements
  • HIPAA and other laws that may apply to their organization

PurpleTools does not represent that installing the extension, by itself, makes a user or organization compliant with HIPAA or any other legal requirement.

10. Chrome Web Store Limited Use

PurpleTools Clicks uses information accessed through the extension only to provide or improve the extension’s clearly disclosed, user-facing workflow functionality.

PurpleTools does not use or transfer extension user data for personalized advertising, unrelated marketing, creditworthiness, lending, or the sale of information.

Human access to patient-chart content is not permitted because PurpleTools Clicks does not transmit that content to PurpleTools. Users should avoid voluntarily sending patient information in support communications.

11. Third-party services

PurpleTools Clicks uses the following independent services:

ExtensionPay

ExtensionPay provides trial activation, account login, subscription management, and license-verification services.

Stripe

Stripe provides payment-processing and billing services.

Google Chrome

Google Chrome provides the browser, extension-storage system, Chrome Web Store distribution, and optional synchronization of extension settings.

eClinicalWorks

PurpleTools Clicks operates on supported eClinicalWorks webpages. eClinicalWorks independently controls its services, systems, and data practices.

PurpleTools Medical is not responsible for the privacy or security practices of these independent services. Users should review the privacy policies and terms provided by each service.

12. No advertising or analytics

PurpleTools Clicks does not contain third-party advertising.

The current version does not use third-party analytics services to track user behavior within eClinicalWorks.

PurpleTools does not create advertising profiles based on browsing activity, patient information, or extension usage.

13. Children’s privacy

PurpleTools Clicks is a professional workflow product and is not directed to children under 13.

PurpleTools does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children through the extension.

14. Changes to this policy

PurpleTools may update this Privacy Policy when the extension’s functionality, service providers, or legal requirements change.

The effective date at the top of this policy will be updated when changes are made. Material changes to data practices will be disclosed as required.
