PurpleTools RAF – Compliance Review in Progress
PurpleTools RAF is currently undergoing a compliance review to ensure alignment with applicable regulatory requirements and industry standards. We appreciate your patience and will provide updates as they become available.
RAF means Risk Adjustment Factor. Risk adjustment is used to account for differences in the expected health-care needs and costs of patient populations. Diagnoses that affect risk adjustment can therefore have important consequences for how the complexity and expected cost of caring for a patient population are represented.
For clinicians, however, the process can become disconnected from the clinical work itself. Physicians may spend substantial time searching for, entering, or re-entering diagnoses because they appear to carry a RAF value—even when the diagnosis adds no meaningful new risk-adjustment value in that particular situation.
PurpleTools RAF is designed to help distinguish information that matters from activity that merely creates more work. It brings relevant risk-adjustment information closer to the point of care, helps organize diagnoses, and can make hierarchical or redundant relationships easier to recognize.
The objective is not simply to enter more RAF-related diagnoses. It is to help clinicians understand which diagnoses may actually matter, which may be redundant or superseded, and where additional documentation or review is clinically appropriate. In doing so, PurpleTools RAF also serves an educational role: it helps physicians see why one diagnosis may affect risk adjustment while another may add no additional value, making the underlying logic of risk adjustment more visible during everyday clinical work. The physician remains responsible for the diagnosis and clinical judgment; the software is intended to reduce unnecessary searching, clicking, coding, and other activity that does not meaningfully change the patient's risk-adjustment picture.
